ORAL CANCER SCREENING

Part of your regular dental checkup will always be an oral cancer screening - checking the skin, lips, cheeks, gums, tongue, and roof of the mouth for any suspicious lesions.  This is done at no extra charge.  The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research has reported that one-third of all cancers have some sort of manifestation in or around the mouth.  This can include lesions, sores, infection, dry mouth, sensitive gums, and jaw pain.  The goal of oral cancer screening is early identification when there is a greater chance for a cure.  If we become aware of anything suspicious, immediate and appropriate steps will be taken to ensure you are able to seek further evaluation.
